Maria is a are most gracious guest. She and Allan were great company, keeping the conversation going and cracking jokes. Maria awas really upportive. she had great jokes to tell that all seemed so natural. Now that is what I call' talent', on top of her cooking skills!

Vietnamese New Year's Eve Celebrations

Mind blowingly excellent from start to finish, never endingly plentiful (but not over facing) supply of different delicious freshly prepared Vietnamese courses, stimulating conversation, warm and chatty hosts and a real homely vibe. My best friend and I felt like we were old friends of Maria & Alan within five minutes! Can't recommend them highly enough, their generosity literally knew no bounds. After the 8 course banquet (plus Eton Mess for dessert and tastes of five different amazing ice-creams) not one but four boxes of chocolates were distributed with the freshly brewed coffee. Over and above what we could ever have expected. We will be back, soon and repeatedly. Thanks Maria & Alan :-)

Valentines Day Feast at The Dog Inn

When I saw a 'communal' event for a Valentine's evening, that wasn't romantic I jumped at the chance to book. Not that I don't love romance, but I didn't want to fall into the trap of inflated prices, for standard food just because it was 'Valentine's Night'. I fell in love all over again! (as did my husband, oh, and my mother-in-law to boot ...... yes I brought her along too!). The venue was very smart. The Dog Inn, a community pub in the local village of Belthorn, Blackburn is well worth a visit. Has a gorgeous fireside bar with a country feel but the restaurant area feels quite upmarket without being pretentious (enhanced by the very lovely new people we met) very well appointed with fabulous views from the veranda over the countryside. And the food shone brightly! Amazing tastes from around the world provided by Maria & Alan, stunning. If I had to choose a favourite item it would be one of the cheeses on the cheeseboard that came with a gorgeous block of fresh honeycombed honey, a combination I had not tried before. Thought I'd died and went to heaven. It was a near miss as I was soooooo full by the time the cheeseboard came along I nearly passed it by but glad I made contact. A classic sweet & sour coupling of 2 foods I'd never think to marry together but were so well suited. I loved it! Many, many wonders preceded homemade pickled veg, the sweetest red onions with walnut salsa, homemade Labneh, Albondigas (meat balls), trio of dips, chicken & rice with cardamon...it just went on. And last but not least Maria's puddings are to die for! Everything is homemade to perfection and after eating the strawberry meringues......I couldn't speak! I do however, have one complaint.....leftovers were nowhere to be seen! I have been craving all today to no avail!!! I WILL be bringing tupperware next time!
