We will host the night on Zoom, I will help you with any kitchen disasters and Mark will talk you through drinks.
Although there is everything you will need for your romantico meal for two you will need to buy a few extra ingredients. We have done it this way so that everything is as fresh as can be giving you lots of options to adapt it to your tastes, the box will be vegetarian and gluten free.
You need to purchase some bread, to eat, dunk, crunch, dip and tear into the starters. You need to buy some chicken, steak or vegetables such as aubergine to go with the puttanesca sauce and you will need to buy the garnishes to go with the drinks these are orange, mint, lime and thyme and of course plenty of ice. You can if you want to add some cheese, parma ham, salami etc.
Box content .......
The first starter is tomato and mozzarella combination, two simple ingredients that make my heart sing, creamy buffalo mozzarella sliced and surrounded by a tomato salsa with wisps of oregano and lemon.
The second is orzo pesto pasta salad - if you love basil and Parmesan then one whiff of this will take you to a sun kissed Italian trattoria.
Then there is an aubergine caponata - my grandma always had a pot of this on the wood fired stove, it can be eaten warm or room temperature.
Last starter is a dish of mixed olives infused with rosemary, garlic, lemon and balsamic vinegar - this can be eaten warm or at room temperature (I think it's best warm).
The main course is a Puttanesca sauce a true Neapolitan dish which is reduced to a thickness that makes it stick kicking and screaming to whatever it is that you have bought to go along with it. Traditionally it is served with chicken but it goes really well with beef and of course if you are vegetarian you can put some of this sauce into a roasted aubergine or just toss it with some pasta. There will be plenty of this lovely, deep, gutsy sauce to soak up into the crispy, garlic roasted crushed potatoes that we will be serving it with.
For pudding we are having not one but two dessert. In your box you will get two empty cannoli shells, some meringues kisses and a piping bag full of whipped cream which you will use to fill the puddings with there will also be a tub of crushed nuts and cocoa to dip the cannoli into, what you do with the leftover whipped cream and crushed nuts is none of my business!!! Any valentines' babies must be called either Maria or Mario .....
