Alan and I don't usually "do" anything for valentines - we find that restaurants suddenly charge more and the menu changes that they make are not always for the better! Instead of buying overpriced flowers grab a seat at dinner - trust me you will earn brownie points for coming up with this one! You know that if you are single you are still MORE than welcome to come along - we promise that there won't be anything romantic going on ... If you see Alan down on one knee he will have dropped something!
A selection of Mezze
Roasted red pepper with olives and garlic drizzled in olive oil and pomegranate molasses
Tomato and preserved lemon salad (with a hint of paprika)
Pink grapefruit and sumac salad with red onion and basil in a sweet chilli dressing
(Yes I know they are all pink/red - it is valentines day!)
all served with fresh bread and warm pitta bread.
The main event ....
Roast chicken Ottolenghi style - thyme, sage, orange, garlic, chilli, red onion, muscovado sugar, pomegranate molasses, dark soya sauce and olive oil are gently massaged into the chicken for 24 hours (lucky bird) then roasted with butternut squash and prunes to give a sticky yummy sauce that covers everything in the pan.
Halloumi with roasted carrot, mint and ginger tomatoes with a cider vinegar, Dijon mustard and honey dressing.
Served with rice and seasonal vegetables
Raspberry Cranachan trifle - raspberries and cream with a crunchy honey and caramel oat crumb
Honey spice cake with ginger and coconut - moist, spicy and irresistible (a bit like Alan) served warm with cream, ice cream and flavoured crème fraiche
Then there is the mega cheeseboard - we are going to make a special trip to Booths for tonight there will be a selection of foreign and local cheese some hard, some soft - so soft they are practically gooey served with grapes, walnuts, figs, biscuits, membrillo, a plethora of biscuits and a snifter of port - would be rude not to!!
Freshly ground coffee served with a variety of after dinner mints - not just after eights - tonight we will bring out the posh stuff. Our variety of liqueur coffees knows no bounds. We have whiskey, both Irish and Scottish, Brandy, Tia Maria, Baileys, Tequila, Rum, Amaretto; you name it we’ve got it !!! There is also Yorkshire tea, mint tea, green tea, liquorice tea, pomegranate and apple tea and decaf coffee if anyone wants one.
