Alan and I don't usually bother with New Year - there is a lot of hype and you feel pressured into "doing" something which can be a bit pants if you are on your own. We have some friends coming to stay with us and will have an extra 4 seats at the table - if you want to join us you are more than welcome. You don't have to stay till Midnight if you would rather get home earlier then that is fine x
Cocktail on arrival choose from;
The OMG and T - this quintessentially British drink has been given a fresh berry facelift that will take you straight to cocktail Nirvana. Gin and tonic with berries and lime.
Cuba Libre - Simple, delicious and so much more than just a rum and cola, the Cuba Libre probably dates back to 1900, a few months after a new-fangled drink called cola arrived in Cuba.
Pimm's on Fire - The classic fruity, subtly herbal taste of Pimm’s No.1 is given a new dimension with a hint of ginger and fresh mint for a spiced-up version of the drink that works well as a winter warmer.
To start the evening off we will serve a platter of seafood and dips.
Served with a chilled glass of Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc (my favourite - don't let me have more than one glass or I might have to have a lie down)
Followed by
Slow Roast lamb with an onion marmalade accompanied by monster Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables.
Served with a glass of Grenach Noir Cotes Catalanes - This red wine despite it's humble origins is a jewel in name, colour and taste, purchased from our favourite wine shop D Byrne's in Clitheroe.
Lemon Posset - I love all things lemony and thought that this is might be a good way to refreshen our pallets.
Alan loves a chocolate dessert so will have a think about meeting his every pudding desire ....
Then there is the mega cheeseboard - we are going to make a special trip to Booths for tonight there will be a selection of foreign and local cheese some hard, some soft - so soft they are practically gooey served with grapes, walnuts, figs, biscuits, quince jelly, membrillo, a plethora of biscuits and a snifter of port - would be rude not to!!
Freshly ground coffee served with a variety of after dinner mints - not just after eights - tonight we will bring out the posh stuff.
Our variety of liqueur coffees knows no bounds. We have whiskey, both Irish and Scottish, Brandy, Tia Maria, Baileys, Tequila, Rum, Amaretto; you name it we’ve got it !!! There is also Yorkshire tea, mint tea, green tea, liquorice tea, pomegranate and apple tea and decaf coffee if anyone wants one.
Glass of fizz to bring in the New Year.
